Benedicta the singing, dancing bride

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved ©

Brides are known to dance for joy during their marriage ceremonies, but singing with the choir as well on one's wedding day is not very common.

On December 24, 2022, Benedicta Gyimaah Folley performed a song as the lead singer with her church (Abundant Life Worship Center) choir, during the solemnisation of holy matrimony with her beloved, Zadok Kwame Gyesi, in Accra.

Her dancing skills as well were on display, during both the nuptials and the refreshment thereafter.

Can you begrudge her? Of course not! It was a day to be happy, joyful and make merry. As she showed, it was also a day to sing and dance.

#Edmages captured some of the singing and dancing scenes and shares them here.

Happy Marriage Zadok & Benedicta

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved ©

He who finds a wife has found a good thing, so the Good Book says.

So when the High Priest, Zadok Kwame Gyesi found his missing rib, Benedicta Gyimaah Folley and 'welded' her at the Abundant Life Worship Center, Accra New Town, on Saturday, December 24, 2022, his joy knew no bounds. As for Bene, she was on cloud nine.

And what a way to celebrate Christmas! They both had each other as the most cherished presents on the eve of Christmas Day.

#Edmages wishes the love birds an exciting journey together as husband and wife.

Mrs Parry@60...And everything was so beautiful

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved (C)

Last Saturday, October 22, 2022, loved ones, friends, colleagues and family members joined Mrs Kathryn Parry celebrate her glorious 60th birthday with a dinner at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, and my! wasn't everything so beautiful!

From décor to the smiling nicely-dressed guests, to the food, music, drinks and messages to the celebrant, the atmosphere was really celebratory and the guests understandably could not resist the lovely music (a mixture of old and new) blaring from the speakers of DJ Eddie.

There was spontaneous dancing as the DJ's selection filled the air. There were also giggles, laughter and plenty of hugs to go round as guests saw friends they had not seen in a while. The Emcees for the night, Maurice Quansah and Rosalind Amoh, also did very well to engage the guests throughout the event.

It was simply a fantastic night that will linger for guests who shared the joy of turning 60 with Kathryn. Yours truly #Edmages captured some exciting scenes from the event and shares them here.

Joyful Way Golden Jubilee Concert

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved ©

Hands were lifted up in worship, feet were moved in rhythmic dance moves and voices were raised in praise of the Most High God.

It was the Golden Jubilee musical concert organised by Joyful Way Incorporated (JWI), to commemorate their 50 years of existence and ministry.

The venue was the forecourt of the State House in Accra, the date was Saturday, September 3, 2022 and the time was 6 p.m.

On the bill were Alabaster Box, an acapella group of repute, the ever green Daughters of Glorious Jesus, international music minister, Bishop Benjamin Dube from South Africa and Minister Joe Mettle. And of course, JWI dished out to ecstatic patrons running into a few thousands, their repertoire of yesteryears and songs that have become the favourite of Christendom.

Indeed, it was a night to remember and a refreshing time before the Lord. Patrons made sure they did not waste the music that emanated from the giant stage, instruments, voices of the ministers and speakers.

#Edmages captured some of the memorable scenes from the charged atmosphere at the concert.

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved ©

The Ghana Garden & Flower Show on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, marked its 10th Anniversary with the opening of an exhibition attracting several individuals and organisations involved in the horticulture industry as well as other stakeholders.

It was on the theme "Growth Unleashed" and organised by the Ghana Garden and Flower Movement, an initiative of Stratcomm Africa.

The Efua Sutherland Children's Park in Accra, which was the venue, thus became a big garden displaying flowers and shrubs of many colours (Some for beautification, food and medicine), which were a sight to behold.

Indeed, as the Holy Book says in Genesis 1:29 - "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."

The opening which also included some fireworks (flowers in the sky), was graced by some dignitaries and stakeholders who presented short speeches. Patrons have a one-stop shop to get for themselves beautiful flowers and ornamental plants at competitive prices for their homes and offices till the fair ends on September 4, 2022.

Commemorating World Photography Day

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante (Edmages). All Rights Reserved ©

The soft click of the camera, a flash of light and a moment in time is captured forever. Although it may be digitally or on film, the medium is never as important as the memory or moment caught.

World Photography Day is celebrated globally every year on August 19. In the year 1826, French photographer, Joseph Nicephore Niepce had taken the first permanent photograph of all time.

World Photography Day is celebrated on August 19 each year to pay tribute to the art of photography, create awareness, share ideas and encourage people to take up photography.

It also serves as a motivating day for enthusiasts to pursue photography as a career.

The inception of this day dates back to 1837 when Frenchmen Joseph Nicephore Niepce and Louis Daguerre invented the ‘daguerreotype’ which was the world’s first-ever photographic process.

Find below some photos taken by #Edmages in different parts of the world to commemorate the day.

Reminiscing Delft, The Netherlands

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved (C)

In June, 2013, I had the opportunity to visit Delft, a canal-ringed city in western Netherlands, which is known as the manufacturing base for Delftware, a hand-painted blue-and-white pottery.

The visit was to attend the first ever international Water Integrity Forum organised by the Water Integrity Network (WIN), in collaboration with the Water Governance Centre (WGC) and the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, to take stock of the progress made in addressing corruption in the provision of water.

During the conference I made shared knowledge on the state of water provision in Ghana and the work of the Ghana Watsan Journalists Network which I represented.

Below are some images captured by #Edmages of the city and during the conference.

Kathryn Parry joins retirees club

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved (c)

On Friday, May 20, 2022, the HR Manager of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mrs Kathryn Parry, popularly referred to as Mrs Parry by staff of the company, added her name to the list of retirees who have completed their work life with GCGL.

September 2022 would be exactly 29 years since she joined GCGL as an Administrative Manager and spent the greater part of her working life till she closed that page as Human Resource Manager.

Her department held a lovely send off for her, at which they wished her well in her retirement and presented her with various parting gifts. Various speakers from different departments who were present also spoke of their encounter with the retiree, which drew a lot of laughter from her.

Very common in the speeches was Mrs Parry's regular crossing of the Graphic Road clutching files, on a daily basis from the Mirror House where her office is located, to the Headquarters to transact official business.

Present at the farewell were also family members including her husband, brothers and daughter.

As usual #Edmages was there to capture some memorable images and shares them here.

We wish Mrs Kathryn Parry a very well deserved retirement and success in all her endeavours.

Abongo girls, boys 1978...Meetup with Yooku Sangari

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved ©

It was all joy and reliving childhood and primary school days in the 1970s, when the 1978 year group and classmates from Services Primary School in Takoradi met for the second time at Afrikiko in Accra on Friday, May 6, 2022.

The meetup was essentially to touch base with a colleague domiciled in the UK who had arrived in the country for a brief visit, Yooku Sangari - popularly referred to as Doula.

Though a rainy day, few members of the group were able to make it to the rendezvous to share old times and see their colleague.

Yeah, though tiny over four decades ago, everyone who came around was now a big man or woman. Indeed the young shall grow.

#Edmages captured some of the moments and shares them here.

Peggy@60...Night of Glitz & Glam

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved ©

The 60th birthday dinner for Ms Peggy Addo at the Accra International Conference Centre on April 9, 2022, lived up to its billing as a night of glamour and glitz.

The décor set in Black and Gold, the colours for 60th anniversary, complemented with chandeliers and a sprinkle of lights all over the venue with a uniquely designed backdrop, set the tone for a glitzy night of good food, drinks, dance and good cheer.

As the time set for the event - 6:30pm struck, guests began arriving, resplendent in their dinner wear that conformed with the dress code for the evening.

Coming after the President had announced that the wearing of face masks were no longer mandatory, guests could easily make each other out, which added to the excitement and glam.

The touch of black and gold was not lost on the saxophonist on the night, who donned an all black apparel and played his golden sax all through the night and was supported by a 'spinner' who played some golden oldies that kept guests partying all night long till day broke.

#Edmages wishes Ms Peggy Addo the very best of everything #canonshots #P@60 #Birthdaygirl

Ghana@65...Just because it is Ghana Month

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved ©

Ghana gained its independence from the British on March 6, 1957, becoming the first African country south of the Sahara to do so. Subsequently Ghana became the torch bearer in Africa, leading other countries to the path of independence.

This year Ghana attains 65 years since that fateful day that the country was declared independent by its first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah at the old polo grounds in Accra.

To commemorate the month of March dubbed Ghana Month because it is considered the country's birth month, employees of the Graphic Communications Group Limited have decided to go Ghanaian or African in the choice of clothes to work.

#Edmages yesterday, March 3, captured some workers going about their duties in their African prints and shares some of them with you.

It's Red...It's Valentine

By Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved ©

A thousand reasons have been given for the wearing of red on St. Valentine's Day. However, a story goes that a very bored French Queen around the 16th century, who decided to create a game in order to entertain herself (https://www.herculture.org/blog/2016/1/28/why-do-we-wear-red-for-valentines-day). She gathered all the men and women in her court and gave them each tasks to carry out.

Men were asked to write poetry and songs, and bring chocolates and red roses to the women. On the other hand, women would dress in their finest clothes, and stain their lips and cheeks a shade of red and sing complimentary words to their men.

The Queen called this- the game of love. Eventually, these little practices of chivalry in love are what we now call the modern day romance.

If you look back at the game played by the French Queen, the color red seems to be a recurring detail, red roses and red lip stains. But the question still stands, why is red so significant on Valentine’s Day?

For so long, the colour red was said to represent the blood red of the beating heart, and that heart was the ultimate symbol of love.

In Edmund Leighton’s painting God Speed, a lady gives her knight a red token of love as if to say that my beating heart will always be yours even when we are apart.

Today red tokens come in various forms, such as a ruby ring, red rose and even red fluffy pillows.

Well, the colour red is still very much the in-thing on Valentine’s Day and to celebrate the day, #Edmages reposts some of the images of ladies in red as captured over the years by yours truly.

Have a happy Val’s Day. #canonshots #ladiesinred #portraitphotography

Graphic's Mother, Peggy Addo retires...after 19-year service

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved ©

The longest serving Executive of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Ms Peggy Addo, on Friday, January 28, 2022, hanged up her boots after dutifully and faithfully serving the GCGL for 19 years.

Lawyer Peggy Addo, who started her career with the GCGL on March 17, 2003 as General Manager, HR and Legal, in 2010 became the Director, HR & Administration following the restructuring of Management, a position she held till her commencement of leave prior to retirement.

It was an emotional time of bookish English, candid speeches from lives she had touched during her period with Graphic, food & drinks and photo ops with the woman who has played mother to over thousand employees (some very personal and touching) over the years.

Credited with most of the GCGL's current policies, successes as a business with prudent management skills as well as programmes, it was no wonder that the citations read on the day lauded her business acumen.

It was also not surprising that some who had benefitted from her motherly love, sometimes mixed with sternness, broke down while acknowledging the impact she has had on their careers and personal lives.

Well, Yours Truly #Edmages couldn't miss the simple, yet very beautiful send off for Peggy organised by the HR outfit of the GCGL which she headed effortlessly.
