AU Day: Beautiful Africa showcased at Graphic

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved (C)

May 25 is observed throughout the African continent as African Union or AU Day to commemorate the founding of the Organisation of African Unity on this day in 1963.

This year's commemoration was on the theme: “Arts, Culture and Heritage: Levers for Building the Africa we Want”.

The AU theme of the year for 2021 presents a unique opportunity for the continent to celebrate its great Pan-Africanists who have played and are still playing a key role in African renaissance and re-birth.

The Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) went traditional with staff donning very colourful Ghanaian and African attire to work on the day to showcase the rich African culture and heritage. Indeed Africa is beautiful and staff wore attires from the North, South, West and East of Ghana as well as some parts of Africa.

#Edmages captured some of the captivating traditional wears and shares them here.

Reliving Berlin, Hamburg 2009

Pictures by Edmund Smith-Asante. All Rights Reserved (C)

One of the best times of my life was my stay in Berlin in Germany during a three-week InWEnt course in News Paper Management in 2009. I met amazing journalists from Africa and Asia who were the beneficiaries of the German Government-sponsored course.

Also very pleasant to be with were our two lecturers, Tatiana Repkova and Peter Berger, as well as the very friendly and helpful seminar assistants, Susan and Antonella. They actually helped us know and appreciate the beautiful Berlin city and Hamburg, taking us ballroom dancing, dining at wonderful restaurants and other places of interest.

Below are some pictures captured with my little autofocus Fujitsu camera from my third trip to Germany.
